NL Reflection Modules 3&4

Module 3 is knowledge and clinical judgement. It talked about how you as a nurse are expected to have an understanding of a wide variety of topics such as pathophysiology, pharmacology, nutrition, mathematic calculation, nursing procedures, ethical and legal issues, and effective communication and information technology. The module explained this knowledge to be critical to the nurse since they are the ones providing care, their knowledge of information is being passed along to the patient. The module talked about steps of critical thinking and clinical reasoning which we have touched upon in our classes as well. This module really helped me understand why I am taking certain classes and why it is so important that I learn as much as I can throughout these different courses.

Module 4 is all about priority setting framework. This module talked about how nurses use critical judgement to prioritize patient care. There are different levels of survival potential which I learned about in this module. There is emergent, urgent, non-urgent, and expectant. Knowing the difference between these rankings is very important regarding a patient’s life expectancy.  Nurses must learn how to prioritize to decide which patient to treat first and how to go about treating them if they have multiple diagnoses. This relates back to our classes because we are starting to learn how to think like a nurse and how to prioritize which patient would be treated first in certain scenarios.
