Our group decided to look at sleep quality in the hospital and how it related to delirium. Since starting the research on how sleep affects delirium, we discovered that patients do not sleep well in the hospital due to multiple factors. We realized that poor sleep can lead to delirium which poses serious complications and can easily be prevented with simple changes. All the literature we found, backs up our hypothesis that improving sleep reduces risk of delirium. One of the big changes we made to our proposal is we initially focused it on the patient, however we did not have the means to follow through adequately so our team then changed the focus of the proposal to be about the nurses and their education about the topic. These findings will help impact my future nursing practice because I will be conscious about the amount of sleep my patients get and the quality of sleep. I will provide interventions to help improve their quality of sleep and make sure to cluster my care, minimizing the amount of times the patient is woken up throughout the night. As a team we worked well together, we all collaborated on each part of the project and communicated our needs. If one member needed help, we would all work together to ensure the individual was supported. Our team did not face any major challenges, even when we were not together in person, we collaborated as a team.
