Prepare for Transition!

I am most excited about being able to graduate and become a real registered nurse. I am excited to have patient’s on my own and be able to care for them without the need of another nurse being present. I will celebrate the victories and progress I am making with my family at graduation. I am anxious about the responsibilities of being a nurse but I know that I can rise to the occasion and become the best nurse I can possibly be. I will prepare and stay focused and on track each week by planning at the beginning of each week the assignments that are due and tasks I need to accomplish that week. I will further break it down into specific days to keep myself on track and to not overwhelm myself. I will choose which days to do each assignment based on the due date, and the time commitment of each task.

I learned new things from each of the Nurse Logic Modules. One thing I learned from the knowledge and clinical judgment module is that a headache is a complication that can arise from a lumbar puncture. I knew that an order from the provider was needed for a DNR however the module also helped to reiterate that a written order by the provider is needed to change a patient’s status to DNR. A third thing I learned from this module is that dark urine is a clinical manifestation associated with biliary atresia. One thing I learned from the nursing concepts module is that facial edema should be reported to the provider right away if a patient is pregnant and experiences it because it can be a sign of gestational hypertension. Another thing I learned from this module is that ABG samples should be sent down to the lab before doing other tasks because they are kept on ice so it is important to send it to the laboratory before anything else so that it stays fresh otherwise the results will be thrown off because the sample is no longer viable. A third thing I learned from this module is that excessive vomiting is a manifestation of metabolic acidosis complications. One thing I learned from the Priority Setting Framework module is that physical activity can ease panic level anxiety. Physical activity can ease anxiety because it is noninvasive and non restrictive and also eases tension which in turn can help lower anxiety and give the patient something else to focus on. Another thing I learned from this module is that a patient who just underwent a tonsillectomy and displays frequent swallowing needs immediate interventions because it can be a manifestation of hemorrhage. A third thing I learned from this module is a patient who was in trauma who has an incomplete amputation takes priority over other patients with other injuries since many injuries can come from an incomplete amputation but the survivability is high if treated right away. Something I learned from the testing and remediation module is that if there is an audio clip in a question and you try to answer it without listening to the clip, the student will not be able to move on until the clip is listened to. Another thing I learned from this module is that identifying one’s own beliefs and values is important when determining care for the patient and allows for culturally competent care. A third thing I learned from this module is that soybeans have a complete source of protein.
