Active Reading

Active Reading is used on an every day basis. It is a skill that is used to help people learn and understand something new. There are many ways for someone to be actively reading such as chunking, highlighting, underlining, and making notes in the margins of the reading. In this reading, Gilroy talked about how to be an active reader. she says that you need to have a conversation with the author. you need to constantly be asking yourself questions and taking notes and thinking about what the author is saying. She says to take the information the author is giving you, take it apart and turn it into your own words.

When I actively read, I like to highlight and make notes. I typically use multiple colors depending on what the purpose of my reading is for. Usually I will have one color for questions, another color for main arguments, and if there is more than one argument I will have a third color. Using multiple colors helps me because then when I go back to look at it I can search for a color and everything in that color I know will have to do with a certain topic.

I chose Bain part 2 as my evidence because I think it best shows the ways I use different colors and It shows that I make notes along the margins of the passages. I think this is the passage that best shows how I have learned to be an active reader and shows a method that works well for me.
